david-bowman-imageDavid Bowman has Coronary Artery (heart) Chronic Total Occlusion.

This means there is a total blockage of a heart artery that has existed for more than a month.

David was treated at Spectrum Health’s Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center for his condition.

Having suffered three previous heart attacks, David was no stranger to the risks of his condition—and the fear and uncertainty that came with it.

“I was walking on eggshells,” David said. “I didn’t want another heart attack.”

David’s struggle led to bouts of depression and fear. After spending years being cautious and nervous about everyday activities like mowing the lawn or working on a household project, David’s outlook was about to change.

When he began seeing cardiologist, Kevin Wolschleger, MD, and his team, David shared the stress of living in fear. Wanting to participate in life, but holding back for fear of another heart attack was a constant drain.

Together with Dr. Wolschleger and team, they created a strategy designed to address David’s condition and ease the constant hesitation he faced.

Considering treatment options, one of David’s primary concerns was being close to his family.

With Dr. Wolschleger’s local office, David was thrilled to be able to stay in West Michigan. The comfort of having his support group nearby was invaluable.

He reports, “The care was excellent… I was completely comfortable and knew that this was the right decision for me.”

After completing treatment with Dr. Wolschleger, David resumed followed up with his primary care physician for ongoing maintenance.

The intervention was a success. After years of living with daily angina and being nervous about every move, David said, “Now I don’t worry about activities. I just do it!” That’s the kind of future we want for heart patients.
