I was diagnoised with congenital heart defects in 2004. I was 50 years old. I have had asthma and allergies since I was in 2nd grade so when I was tired, out of breath I was told it was my asthma. We were living in PA when I got really bad. Went to doctor, had a heart cath and was sent to Pittsburgh where they found a fistula coming off my vena cava artery taking the blood without oxygen and putting it into the ones with oxygen. They also found a hole in my heart and in surgery found another hole. Surgery was 6 hours long. I have been told now I am fine. This article makes me rethink the local heart doctors comment that I would never have to come back, that I am fixed!
