Some 1,000 children—some much younger than Dr. Houser of television days of old—refined their surgical skills, examined X-rays and doted on tiny babies from the neonatal intensive care unit.

Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital hosted Doctor’s Day at Grand Rapids Children’s Museum for much of the day Friday.

The annual event provides kids with hands-on experiences related to health care activities such as radiology procedures, setting a broken arm and suturing a wound.

Doctor’s Day also helps kids feel more comfortable when they come to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital for pediatric care and gives them an opportunity to learn what it takes to work at a hospital.
