Children were greeted by Superman, Batman and real-life heroes from the Sparta Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department, Spectrum Health’s Security Services and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Child Life Services.
Spectrum Health police dogs Fix, Rex and Cain even got into the spirit, donning their own custom-made capes for the occasion. Children selected superhero masks and capes and made their way around the Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital café to play games, collect prizes, make crafts and capture photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The highlight of the event seemed to be the dynamic window-washing duo of Spiderman and Batman—courtesy of Modern Window—repelling down the side of the hospital to the adoring crowd gathered below.
More than 20 volunteers from the community are responsible for the success of this special event, and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Child Life Specialists helped ensure each child left with their greatest super power: A big smile!
I love the HDVCH. They do such wonderful things not only for the health of the kiddo’s but for their entertainment as well. And Way to Go K-9 pooches.
